Dunwoody Preservation
Trust Celebrates History at Fun Filled Event
DUNWOODY, Ga. – The Dunwoody Preservation Trust will host
the second Preservation Celebration at the Donaldson-Bannister house and farm
on Sunday, September 30 from 12:00 noon until 4:30 p.m. This community awareness event celebrates the
history of the home built in 1870 with tours and family friendly activities reminiscent
of historic times. The home and farm is
located at the corner of Vermack and Chamblee Dunwoody Roads. Admission is free as are most activities.
A similar event was held in the spring and both events are
funded with a $5,000 donation from City Council member Adrian Bonser, her
husband Brian Bonser, and the Gendell Family Foundation, along with numerous
other volunteers and sponsors. The Preservation Celebration events are intended to raise awareness and educate the
community on the restoration needs for the house, now a city owned park, in
order for it to be fully enjoyed by the community.
There will be something for everyone at this community event
including:
·
Guided tours of the grounds
·
Self-guided tours of the house
·
Games and activities for children and adults
including: corn hole, horseshoes, a petting
farm, 3-legged-races
·
A deejay to provide musical entertainment
·
Food including barbecue provided by a local
chapter of the Knights of Columbus and Boy Scout Troop #477
A very successful cake auction returns for this event and
will include pies as well as cakes. The
live auction begins at 1:30 pm. Anyone
interested in donating a cake or a pie for the auction is asked to call 678-641-1186.
All proceeds and donations from the event will go to the
restoration of the Donaldson-Bannister farmhouse and property.
Handicap parking will be available on-site and golf cart
rides offered to assist citizens from this area of parking to the house. Parking will also be available on side
streets and at the nearby Dunwoody Place North Condominium Association complex
at Independence Square (corner of Chamblee-Dunwoody Road and Peeler Road). Parking is discouraged along Vermack Road.
Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs; no
coolers or pets are allowed. Volunteers
are still needed and those interested can contact Bonnie at 770-671-0863. For more information about the event, call M.J.
