Congratulations to our three qualifying council members on 'winning' another four years to city council. All three ran great campaigns.
Actually, there will be no election as no one qualified to run for office against the three incumbents. The city will save about $10,000 since there is no need to have voting.
Councilmen Heneghan, Ross, and Wittenstein have two more years on their current terms.
Lots of things can happen over the next two years. As I stated earlier, any council member who supports an alternative to DeKalb trash service (and that alternate replaces DeKalb) will not win an election. People are not interested in saving $50 a year while taking a risk on an inferior service provider. I spoke with a representative at DeKalb trash and will have a special report coming very soon on this issue.
The current council put in lots of hours getting the city running and I appreciate all of their efforts. I wish them all success the next two (and four) years.

Rick,
I haven't check into this with the city yet, but why would there be no election? What if no one voted for any of the council persons on the ballot? What if there was a right-in candidate? From knowledge of government, there has to be an election. Please let me know where I'm wrong.
Thx
There is now law requiring the election. Since no one else qualified the three folks win by default. There is an extended qualification period for a write-in candidate (a week I think), but a write-in would have no chance in winning.
I could be wrong, and I'm sure someone will let me know if I am.
Pursuant to O.C.G.A. 21-2-285(j) “Any other provision of law to the contrary notwithstanding, in the event there is no opposed candidate in a precinct in a general or special municipal election, no election shall be held in such precinct unless a write-in candidate has qualified as provided by law or unless there are issues to be submitted to the electorate within a precinct.
Write-ins Notice of Intent period closes on September 11, 2009. Should none be filed, there will be no election this year.
Maybe Taser Boy can qualify by end of day 9/11?
